What’s a song lyric that has stuck with you forever?
Daily Writing Prompt – 2836
Probably few of you know that music works on a vegetable garden like a magic elixir. And I’m not just talking about my own patch of dirt, but any garden where supposedly happy plants grow. What should, in theory, be a science-backed botanical process is suddenly supposed to turn into a symphony of green dreams under the influence of sound.
How charming to think that carrots, tomatoes, or potatoes have a hidden taste in music. After all, we all know that what they actually need first is a solid dose of fertilizer. But why invest in compost when you can just blast the latest hits for them? In the end, every gardener dreams of their crops being more spectacular! And if the veggies still won’t grow? It’s always easier to blame a poorly curated playlist than your own gardening skills.
Sidetracking for a moment — I’ve also heard another theory. If your vegetables are wilting, it’s simply because you aren’t showing them enough hatred. Plants can smell fear. Yell at them every morning so they know right off the bat where exactly they stand on the food chain. They might look pathetic, but at least they’ll stop disrespecting you.
Getting back to music and the question itself. What song lyric stuck with me so hard that I hum it during my daily garden chores?
I think it would be Barry McGuire’s 1965 song. A lot of those lines sound surprisingly relevant even today.
The Eastern world, it is explodin’
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’?
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’
But you tell me over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction
