Pumpkin puree. Well, actually, no!

This weekend I did something I’ve been putting off for a long time — I cleaned out a special room that my wife calls a regular shed where we keep the trash cans. But I know better. It’s not just a shed. It’s our home shelter in case of a zombie apocalypse.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, but this is serious business. You never know when the world will surprise us with another pandemic and the walking dead will start roaming the streets. And when that happens, you have to be prepared for anything.

That’s why I invested some time and effort into this place to ensure a bare minimum of comfort for my family in case of a disaster. Sure, I don’t have a power generator or a 50-year supply of canned food just yet, but the future is wide open. Better to prepare a bit too early than a minute too late. I already have a supply of water and milk. Milk might seem like overkill, but until I buy a cow (which, by the way, would be a fantastic addition to my vegetable garden), it’ll have to do. Just for kicks, I could also pick up a few chickens! I also have a freezer where you can store food supplies or corpses — whichever you prefer. And there’s a bike! A bike is essential. Zombies are slow, so I’ll easily have enough time to make a getaway while scavenging nearby villages.

Cleaning out the shelter wasn’t easy. I had to get rid of a whole bunch of junk that was just taking up space and wouldn’t be of any use during an apocalypse. I only kept what’s truly necessary for survival: weapons and ammunition!

Well, actually, no.

Mostly jars of pumpkin puree made by my better half, who is an incredible cook. It’s one of those dishes that helps you keep your sanity in a world turning to ruins. It’ll do for starters, and after that, we’ll probably all be sick of pumpkin for the rest of our lives.

So here I am. Organized, ready, and packed. Maybe one day I’ll convince my wife that this little shed will actually save us from destruction. And standing there in that decluttered shelter, looking at the jars of pumpkin, I remembered one of my favorite quotes in cinema history.

Is life always this hard, or is it just when you’re a kid?

Always like this.
